BLog Post # 8 (The last one :)

                                               The Ordinary World
I just fished reading the book Westmark. These blogs have got me a lot more interested in books and literature. Ms. M thanks for making try new stuff.

I am now currently reading the book Freak The Mighty By Rodman Philbrick . It is a really good read , showing that two very opposite people can get along and relate to each other.

The protagonist or main character is Max well "Max" Kane is the main charater and narrator of the story. He is described to be very big and have a striking resemblance to his father, Kenneth Kane In day care, Max earned the nickname "Kicker" because he had a thing of booting and kicking anyone who dared to touch him, when he was a child. Max lives with his grandparents, Grim and Gram, and usually stays in "The Down Under", a small room in the basement. He hates his father, whom he witnessed killing his mother, Annie. His ordinary world is filled with hatred and  disgust.  There are a lot of pressures in his ordinary world for instance The kids tease him at school because he's larger and different. So there's always that Pressure to change. He's a little summery of the story so you know most of it.
                                                                                                 Summery

The primary characters are friends Maxwell Kane, a large, very slow, but kind-hearted boy, and Kevin Avery, nicknamed “Freak,” who is physically crippled but very intelligent., Kevin's last name was changed to Dillon.) Kevin is diagnosed with Morquio syndrome.
Many years after his times in Daycare, Maxwell Kane, narrating the book, has failed seventh grade twice in Middle School when he finds out that Freak (Kevin Avery), his only buddy from Daycare, is moving into the house next door with his mother, (Gwen Avery). Freak has Morquio syndrome and wears leg braces and uses crutches and is two feet  tall and thinks of himself as a robot since he was crippled. After Maxwell helps Freak get his toy bird out of the tree, they become best friends again. They name themselves "Freak the Mighty" when Freak starts to ride on Maxwell's shoulders, they equal nine feet  tall. In a part of this story Max gets kidnapped by his dad (Killer Kane) and Freak comes to rescue him with a water gun disguised as a real pistol and they ended up getting away and Killer Kane was arrested. On Freak's 13th birthday, he, sadly, has a seizure and is taken to the hospital. Max later finds out Freak died because his heart got too big for his body. Max refuses to come out of the "Down Under", missing Freak's funeral and other events. In the end, Loretta Lee tells Max "nothing is a drag, kid" and Max pulls out an empty book that Kevin gave him before he died and Max writes "Freak the Mighty." which was a really cool ending i thought.

                                                                   MAX WELL'S ORDINARY WORLD
This picture in my eyes represents the definition of Max's world . He grew up in a abusive  environment not healthy for any kids. He witnessed his own father killing his mom. His dad was an alcoholic and a prick. There were many pressures  that made him stay and held him back. Even his father being in jail is a major pressure. He never had a true dad. He also gets teased for being so big ! Kevin brings a sense of peace to his world because he teaches  Max how to not care what other people think of him! His dad is a major conflict in his world. He is petrified to know that he escaped prison.Kevin could be known as a mentor. The least comfort would be not having a father and getting teased at school. The most comfort is when he's around kevin because 'kevin likes max for max . So Max  can really be himself. He is reluctant  to leave  on a new Quest because he has a fear of getting hurt again!

Blog post #6 ( The Emerging Hero)

(The Emerging Hero)

First of all what is an emerging hero? What defines one ? A emerging hero is someone that might not seem like one at first. the person could be clumsy , weird  and abnormal . Everybody has the traits and qualities of a hero , but it is up to them to use these qualities  in the  time of need, pressure or  desire for the well being or goodness of mankind . A real hero would defend what's good and stand up to all the tremendous evil in the world. Someone who completes the task set among them...
In my story Westmark the emerging hero is clearly Theo . He is a orphan boy who is being raised by a local printer named Anton. ( his Mentor) It is all going well until the king's men accuse Anton of his business being illegal . The soldiers are soon raged of Anton and end up murdering him. After The loss of Anton Theo can barely contain his anger. Having nowhere to go he is forced to leave his ordinary world and take to the country side. Now he must embark on a new journey . All the  qualities are there. Theo is honest , passionate  and loyal to his friends. He is willing and adventurous and will stop at nothing to succeed !
He might of been hesitant at first but after he goes on this adventure his entire character and outlook on life change.

Blog Post Number 7 (Freebie)

This is a really good book . You really get into the read. Full of mind blowing action scenes and really great moments . I highly recommend this to my peers ! Down below i will provide a quick summery and the required blog task.

Summary for you who might be interested in the trilogy.
I am currently reading the trilogy Westmark By Lloyd Alexander. The Grand master of fantasy .
It is a complicated and politically dangerous period in Westmark. The country's ruler, King Augustine the fourth, has slipped into A spiraling depression and illness since the supposed death of his only child.

Despite the efforts of the Queen, Caroline, and the court physician, Dr. Torrens, the King is manipulated by his chief minister Cabbarus, who wants the throne for himself. While the ill king is kept distracted by a series of fortune tellers who claim "to be able to speak to his dead child," Cabbarus increases his control over Westmark, restricting freedoms and abusing the king's powers. Young Theo, an orphan, has been raised by a small town printer named Anton. After the pair accepts a job from a travelling salesman they are investigated by Cabbarus' men, who declare their job illegal and then  destroy their press. In the  chase, Theo attacks a soldier and Anton his mentor is shot and killed.

With no one else to turn to, Theo takes to the countryside, eventually meeting up with the men who hired him and Anton for the printing job: Count Las Bombas, a con artist, and his dwarf driver/partner Musket. Theo joins up with them, rather reluctantly, and ends up participating in their schemes. They eventually discover a girl named Mickle, a poor street urchin, who has a great voice. The Count convinces  Mickle to help him out, dressing her up as the Oracle Priestess and putting her on display, claiming that she can speak to the spirits of the dead.
Theo, despite his growing affection for the bright  Mickle, begins to find his new life too rotten and dishonest for his tastes and abandons the group, eventually falling in with Florian, an anti-monarchist and rebel who plans revolution with his band of loyal followers. Meanwhile, Mickle, Las Bombas, and Musket have been arrested for fraud,Theo plots to break his old freinds out of prison, with help from Florian and his allies.

Their reunion, however, does not last long; Cabbarus has tracked them down and has them all arrested!
What happens next? You might ask . Well you'll just have to read and find out the  sketchy , twisted conclusion.
